5 tips for a runway-ready body

On the eve of London Fashion Week, Elite Model Management agent Calais Goord shares her tips for a runway-ready body.

1. Start the day with hot water, lemon and fresh ginger to rehydrate the body and flush out toxins. It’s also a great way to kick-start your metabolism and burn fat.

Follow with a green juice (kale, spinach, romaine, celery and lemon) and two teaspoons of WelleCo SUPER ELIXIR Greens, which is easily absorbed by the body and increases energy levels. This is especially important for the models to sustain their morning workouts.

2. Don’t just stick to one type of workout - mix-it-up. The body gets used to repetitive daily workouts. Try a mix of reformer Pilates, running and boxing. It’s a good mix of strength, endurance and flexibility training. A couple of weeks before Fashion Week, we organise a personal trainer and studio twice a week for an hour class so the models can work out together and motivate each other.

3. Days spent shooting on set can be super-long, so sometimes our models can’t make it to the gym or a workout class. In this case, I recommend a workout at home or in the park. As well as running, you can use your own body weight for resistance, stretchy-band, jump rope or gliding disk.

Here is an effective exercise our girls love to do. Do 20 sets 5 times.

- Make sure you are on a non-carpeted floor. All you need is a gliding disk, or you can use 2 small towels or paper plates.

- Start in a plank position with the gliders under your toes. Open your legs out to a V shape, close back to a plank position, pike up then back down to a plank.

4. WATER! It keeps your body hydrated, maintains clear glowing skin, and boosts your metabolism, especially if the water is ice cold.  If you are drinking more water than usual, your body will retain it. To prevent this, cut back on the sodium you consume. This will reduce bloating and water retention in your body.

5. When models are on the go, we suggest they pack snacks for energy. Unsalted nuts like almonds are the best option as they contain the most fibre and vitamin E, and fruit like berries, red apples, grapefruit or pomegranates.
